Mark used Raleigh cranks that had started out as 170s, with obsolete 140mm and 86mm bolt circles. He cut 13mm out of the arms and welded them back together at 157mm. Then he removed the 140mm BCD portion of the spider, and made an adaptor to allow him to mount a 110mm BCD BioPace ring to the 86mm circle.
It has a tensioner to compensate for the BioPace ring's small diameter fluctuations, as well as to lift the bottom chain run above the front fork crown.
